Orissa Teacher Eligibility Test
In accordance with the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 23 of the RTE Act, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) had vide Notification dated 23rd August, 2010 laid down the minimum qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in classes I to VIII.

What is OTET
OTET is Orissa TET, Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test, a test must qualify one who wish to become teacher for class 1 to 8.

What is the age limit to appear in OTET?
There is no upper age limit
Applicability, in which schools Orissa Teacher Eligibility Test OTET is applicable?
The OTET shall apply to all the Schools of the State Govt., private aided schools and private unaided schools in the State of Odisha. However, the candidates intending to seek employment as teachers in private un-aided schools shall also have the option of appearing at Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) conducted by Central Govt. through CBSE, if they so desire.

OTET Certificate Validity
1) OTET Certificate shall be valid for for life.
2) The candidates after being qualified in OTET can also apply for further improvement.

30 question on Child Development & Pedagogy
In each subject area 20 questions will be set form contents & 10 questions from Pedagogy.
All 150 questions shall be of multiple choice type with four choices. Only one answer is to be chosen by the candidate.
The questions in the paper-I will be based on the topics of the Prescribed syllabus of the state for class I to V but their difficultly standard as well as linkages could be up to the secondary stage.

The questions in the paper-II will be based on the topics of the prescribed syllabus of the state for Class VI to VIII but their difficulty standard as well as linkages could be up to senior secondary/ higher secondary /+2 stage.
There will be no negative marking.
A candidate can apply for only one paper. The candidate eligible to apply under B (Paper-ll), shall not be eligible to apply under Category-A (Paper-l). In case the candidate register under both the papers, his/ her candidature in both the papers shall be rejected.
Eligibility Criteria for OTET
(I) Persons having the following minimum qualifications shall be eligible for appearing in OTET.
(a) Category -A ( Paper- I )
Higher Secondary (+2 or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education(CT).
OR
Higher Secondary (+2 or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2- year Diploma in Education(Special Education).
OR
Graduation and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education/ 2-year Diploma in Special Education.
(b) Category-B ( Paper- II )
Graduation with at least 50% marks and 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.)
OR
Graduation with 50% marks and 1-year B.Ed.(Special Education)
OR
Higher Secondary (+2 or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.A.Ed./ B.Sc.Ed.
Provided that relaxation of 5% minimum qualifying marks in +2 or graduation level, as the case may be, shall be allowed to the candidates belonging to SC, ST,OBC/ SEBC category.
Provided further that candidates having minimum marks in +2 or graduation level, as the case may be, prescribed at the time of admission in teacher education courses shall also eligible to appear in OTET.
(II) Persons who are pursuing (final year) any of the teacher education courses (recognized by the NCTE or by the RCI, as the case may be) specified above in both the categories.
(III) Persons declared eligible by the State Govt./ NCTE/ Govt. of India from time to time.
UNTRAINED CANDIDATES
(a) As per Government of Odisha, School and Mass Education Department Letter No.23860/SME dated 21/10/2013, the untrained candidates, belonging to SC,ST & PH Category having required percentage of marks ( 5% relaxation in minimum qualifying marks in +2 or Graduation Level as the case may be, for the candidates belonging to SC & ST categories ) shall be eligible. THIS IS ONLY TO PROVIDE TO BETTER OPPORTUNITY TO SC,ST & PH CANDIDATES AND THIS DOES NOT GIVE THEM ANY ENTITLEMENT FOR ENGAGEMENT.
(b) As per ADDENDUM No. SME-EL2-EL2-0060-2015 1646/ SME dt.21/01/2016 of the Government of Odisha, School and Mass Education Department, the following guide lines shall be added to the Para-4 of the Resolution issued from the Government, Department of School and Mass Education Vide No.14302/SME dtd-04/06/2012 regarding eligibility of minimum qualification for appearing OTET Examination.
Para-4- Relaxation of 5% in minimum qualifying marks in +2 or graduation level, as the case may be, shall be allowed to the candidates belonging to PWD category
(IV) Candidates eligible to apply under category –‘B’ (Paper-II) of the State’s guidelines (Resolution No. 14302/SME/ Dt 04/06/2012), shall not be eligible to apply under category – ‘A’ (Paper- I).
(V) Passing OTET would not confer a right of any person for recruitment / employment as it is only one of eligibility criteria for appointment.

OTET Passing Marks
(1) A candidate who scores 60% or more in the OTET Examination will be considered as OTET pass.
(2) Candidates belonging to SC, ST, SEBC/ OBC, Physically Handicapped securing scores 50% may be considered as OTET Pass.
(3) The OTET score will be given weightage in the recruitment process.
