In accordance with the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 23 of the RTE Act, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) had vide Notification dated 23rd August, 2010 laid down the minimum qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in classes I to VIII.

What is the age limit to appear in APTET?
There is no upper age limit
Applicability, in which schools Andhra Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test is applicable?
The APTET shall apply to all the Schools referred to in Clause (n) of Section 2 of the RTE Act. However, a School referred to in Sub-Clause (iv) of Clause(n) of Section 2 of the RTE Act, may exercise the option of considering either the TET conducted by the Central Government or the AP-TET.

(1) The validity of APTET Certificates shall be for a period of 7 years from the date of APTET concerned as per CTET.
(2) A person who has qualified in APTET examination may appear again for improving his/her scores in subsequent years.
(3) The APTET certificates will be given in digital format.
(4) The Joint Director, TET Exam and Member Convener, Andhra Pradesh shall issue APTET Pass Certificates in Digital Format to the candidates.
APTET Syllabus
The structure and content of the APTET is given in the following paragraphs.
(a) All questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each carrying One Mark, with four alternatives out of which One Answer will be correct. There will be no Negative Marking.
(b) There will be Two Papers for the APTET. Paper-I will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for Classes I to V, Paper-II will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for Classes VI to VIII. A person who intends to be a Teacher either for Classes I to V or for Classes VI to VIII shall have to appear in both Papers (Paper I and Paper II).

I. The test items on Child Development & Pedagogy will focus on Educational Psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the primary level.
II. How to choose language–I of APTET Paper-I: The following languages are offered under First Language in the Schools under the State Syllabus viz., Telugu, Urdu, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil and Odiya. A Candidate has to choose one of these 6 Languages under Language-I of TET, those candidates should have compulsorily studied that Language either as medium of study or as First Language at least up to Class X. The candidates who studied CBSE/ ICSE curriculum can choose the Language which they studied up to Class X.
III. The Language-II shall be English for all the candidates.
IV. The syllabi for Language I & II shall be based on Proficiency in the language, Elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities (Standard up to class X level).
V. For 30 MCQs under Language I&II, 24 MCQs will be on content and 6 MCQs on Pedagogy on a Language
VI. The syllabi for Mathematics & Environmental Studies are designed on the basis of topics of Classes I to V. The difficulty standard as well as linkages of content/topics could be up to Secondary Stage (up to Class X) for testing. The test items in Mathematics and Environmental Studies will contain Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) not only on Content but also on Pedagogy. In Mathematics, 24 MCQs will be on Content and 6 MCQs on Pedagogy. Similarly, in Environmental Studies 24 MCQs will be on Content and 6 MCQs on Pedagogy.
VII. The detailed syllabus for all subjects shall be the designed by the SCERT and the same shall be issued along with the Notification.
d) Paper II- A: No of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) – 150 Duration of examination: 2 hours and 30 minutes

i) The test items on Child Development & Pedagogy will focus on Educational Psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the Elementary level for Paper II-A Physical Education Pedagogy for Paper II-B will focus on Elementary level.
ii) How to choose Language – I of AP-TET Paper-II A & B: The following Languages are offered under First Language in Secondary schools under the State Syllabus viz., Telugu, Urdu, Hindi, English, Kannada, Tamil, Odiya and Sanskrit. Other than Language Teachers has to choose one of these 8 Languages under Language I of TET, those candidates should have compulsorily studied that Language either as medium of study or First Language at least up to Class-X. The candidates who studied CBSE/ ICSE curriculum can choose the Language which they studied up to Class X.
Language Teachers have to choose the Language of their study in Pandit Training concerned under Language-I of TET Paper II (A).
For Physical Education Teacher a candidate has to choose one of the five (5) Languages (Teugu, Urdu, Tamil, Odiya and Kannada) Under Language I of TET Paper II-B
iii) The Language-II shall be English for all the candidates.
iv) The syllabi for Language I & II for Paper II-A shall be based on proficiency in the Language, Elements of Language, Communication and Comprehension abilities (standard up to Senior Secondary Level (12th Class). 30 MCQs for Language I and 30 MCQs for Language II will be given on content only For Physical Education Teachers the syllabi for Language I & II shall be based on proficiency in the Language, Elements of Language, Communication and Comprehension abilities (standard up to 7th Class) 10 MCQs for Language I & 10 MCQs for Language II will be given on content only.
v) For Paper II- A – questions will be as follows:-
a) (i) Mathematics 30 MCQs (Content 24, Pedagogy 6)
(ii) Science 30 MCQs (Content 24, Pedagogy Content –Physical Science 12 MCQs. Content –Biological Science 12 MCQs. Science Pedagogy 06 MCQs.
a. Social Studies 60 MCQs (Content 48, Pedagogy 12)
b. Language Teachers 60 MCQs (Content 48, Pedagogy 12)
The syllabi for TET of concerned Paper II (A) and are special based and topics of Classes VI to VIII. The difficulty standard of questions as well as their linkages could be up to Senior Secondary Level (12th class).
vi) For Paper II (B), the syllabi for TET of Physical Education Teacher (PET) and School Assistant Physical Education (PE) are based on topics of Classes VI to X. The difficulty standard of questions as well as their linkages could be up to Senior Secondary Level (12th class).
vii) Incentive Marks shall be given to the Physical Education TET candidates under three categories as listed below.
30 Marks:
International level participation representing India
National level Medal Winners
All India Inter University Medal Winners
All India Federation cup Medal Winners
National School Games medal Winners
25 Marks
National Participation representing Andhra Pradesh State
All India Inter University Participation
South Zone Inter University Participation & Medal Winners
South Zonal interstate participation & Medal Winners
National School Games participation
20 Marks
State Level Medal Winners(Inter District)
State level School Games Medal Winners i.e. Gold, Silver and Bronze
viii) If the candidate is having more than one certificate achieved at International, National or State level. The certificate secured at high level will be considered. At any rate a combination of all certificates will not be considered.
ix) Participation in veteran Championship (Master men, Master women), Invitation tournaments, Private tournaments and occasional tournaments are not considered.
x) The list of Games and Sports for considering the incentive marks is given in Annexure.
xi) 20% Weightage marks for Teacher Recruitment Test (TRT) of the State Government for Physical Education candidates will be considered on the basis of Written Marks + Incentive Marks. 20% Weightage marks will be arrived by limiting total marks to 150 only.
Eligibility Criteria for APTET
Minimum TET Qualifications for paper-I (Classes I to V ):
For candidates already in possession of Respective Teacher Education Certificates or pursuing final year of respective Teacher Education Course during 2017-2018 or earlier:
Intermediate / Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks. However in case of SC/ ST/ BC/ Differently Abled candidates, the minimum marks shall be 45%. AND pass in 2 – year Diploma in Elementary Education / 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) / 2 – year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
OR
Intermediate / Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks. In respect of SC/ ST/ BC/ Differently Abled candidates, the minimum marks shall be 40%. AND pass in 2 – year Diploma in Elementary Education / 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education. (B.El.Ed.) / 2 – year Diploma in Education (Special Education) in case of the candidates, who have passed or admitted to D.El.Ed / D.Ed., course prior to issue of these guidelines.
Note: NCTE guidelines were issued in the Month of August, 2010. Therefore, the candidates who acquired qualifications prior to August, 2010 are eligible with above said qualifications/Percentage of marks.
Minimum Qualifications for APTET Paper II-A (Classes VI-VIII):
a) Mathematics and Science Teachers / Social Studies Teachers
(i) Any graduation in concerned subject with at least 50% marks. In case of SC/ST/BC/ Differently Abled candidates, the minimum marks shall be 40% and pass in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) Course / Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) – Special Education.)
(ii) 4- year B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed., with at least 50% marks, in case of SC / ST / BC/ Differently Abled candidates, the minimum marks shall be 45%.
OR
4-year B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed., with at least 50% marks, in case of SC/ ST/ BC/ Differently Abled candidates, the minimum marks shall be 45%.
b) Language Teachers (Classes VI – VIII)
Graduation with Language concerned as one of the Optional Subjects (OR) Bachelor of Oriental Language (or its equivalent) (OR) Graduation in Literature (OR) Post Graduation in Language concerned AND Language Pandit Training Certificate/ B.Ed with Language concerned as one of the Methodologies, in respect of Language Teachers.
Minimum Qualifications for TET Paper II-B (Classes VI-VIII):
i) Physical Education Teachers:
Must possess Intermediate Certificate issued by the Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh (or) Equivalent certificate recognized by Board of Intermediate Education, Govt. of A.P. and Under Graduate Diploma in Physical Education (U.G.D.P.Ed.) of One or Two years duration/ Diploma in Physical Education (D.P.Ed.) of duration not less than Two years (or equivalent) from any NCTE Recognized Institution.
OR
Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent (or) Bachelor’s Degree with Physical Education an elective subject (or) Graduate in Physical Education (BPE) at least Three years duration and Under Graduate Diploma in Physical Education (U.G.D.P.Ed.) of one or two years duration/ Diploma in Physical Education (D.P.Ed) of duration not less than two years (or equivalent) from any NCTE Recognized Institution
ii) Physical Education Teachers /School Assistant- Physical Education:
Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent (or) Bachelor’s Degree with Physical Education an elective subject (or) Graduate in Physical Education (BPE) at least Three years duration (AND) Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed) of at least one year duration course from NCTE Recognized University/Institution
Note:-
i) The candidates, who are appearing in the final year of Diploma in Elementary Education (D.Ed.) (or) Under graduate Diploma in Physical Education (U.G.D.P.Ed). / Diploma in Physical Education (D.P.Ed.) (or) Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) (or) Language Pandit Training (or) Bachelor of Physical Education etc., are also eligible to appear for TET exam subject to the condition that the candidates cannot appear for Teacher Recruitment Test (TRT) with this TET certificate, unless the candidates acquire requisite qualification.
ii) A Diploma/ Degree course in Teacher Education / Degree Course in Physical Education recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) only shall be considered. However in case of Diploma in Education (Special Education) and B.Ed. (Special Education), a course recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) only shall be considered.
iii) Intermediate qualification of Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) of Andhra Pradesh State or its equivalent as recognized by Board of Intermediate Education (BIE), Andhra Pradesh State only shall be considered. So also the Bachelor’s Degree of a University Recognized by UGC only shall be considered.

APTET Passing Marks
The qualifying marks for different categories are as shown below:
(1) A candidate who scores 60% or more in the APTET Examination will be considered as APTET pass.
(2) Candidates belonging to BC securing scores 50% may be considered as APTET Pass.
(3) Candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ Differently abled (PH) & Ex-servicemen securing scores 40% may be considered as APTET Pass.
(4) The APTET score will be given weightage in the recruitment process.
Weightage to APTET scores in the selection of Teacher Recruitment in Andhra Pradesh:
A 20% Weightage to TET scores shall be provided in the Teacher Recruitment of the State Government, balance 80% weightage will be given for Written Test in Teacher Recruitment Test (TRT) based on which selection lists shall be prepared. However, mere qualifying the TET would not confer a right on any person for recruitment/ employment as it is only one of the eligibility criteria for Teacher appointment.
Exemption From Passing APTET:
Teachers who were appointed before NCTE notification dt:23.08.2010 by the Competent Authority in Govt./ Local Authority as per Recruitment Rules prevalent at that time are exempted from appearing for TET. However, Teachers working in Private Schools whose appointments were not approved by the Competent Authority are not exempted from passing TET. Such Teachers of Private Unaided Schools shall appear for TET Exam Paper conducted by either the State Government or Central Government. In respect of non approved Teachers working in Private Aided Schools, they shall invariably appear for TET Exam Paper conducted by the State Government only.
