Do You Need Extra Water On A High-Protein Diet? A Nutritionist ExplainsWater, as we all know, is essential for our survival. It keeps us hydrated, supports our bodily functions, and helps maintain our overall well-being. While we are constantly asked to drink enough water throughout the day, the importance of hydration becomes even more pronounced when it comes to a high-protein diet. In a recent Instagram video, nutritionist Amita Gadre explained why staying hydrated is even more important when you re eating more protein. Her take? If you re increasing your protein intake, do you need to drink more water? Absolutely, yes! Curious to know why? Watch the video to find out!

She explained that a high-protein diet can put extra pressure on the kidneys, as the body produces more waste, like urea, which needs to be flushed out. This makes it even more important to hydrate adequately to ensure the kidneys function efficiently. Consuming protein in higher amounts can also challenge your digestive system. Amita Gadre pointed out that if you re eating more than 25 grams of protein in a single meal, your body may struggle to digest it all at once. By gradually increasing your protein intake, you give your digestive system time to adjust and process the protein load more effectively. Naturally, this requires increasing your water intake as well.

Another critical reason to drink more water with a high-protein diet is to support muscle maintenance. Whether you are increasing protein to promote muscle growth or speed up recovery, staying hydrated is essential. Dehydration can lead to muscle cramps, fatigue, and even hinder muscle protein synthesis, slowing down your progress. In the video, Amita Gadre said, When you are increasing protein to support muscle growth or recovery, you need to make sure your muscles are well-hydrated. She concluded, So the next time you load up on that protein, remember: hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

Vitamin C: Why It s Crucial For Your Health, And What Happens When You Don t Get Enough
Imagine this: you re feeling a little run-down, maybe a bit tired, and your body just isn t quite in sync. What if I told you that a simple nutrient, often found in your favourite citrus fruits, could be the key to feeling better? That s where Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, comes into play. It s one of those unsung heroes your body relies on, but here s the catch - because it s water-soluble, your body can t hold onto it for long. That means you need to get a fresh supply daily. We often think of it only when we are fighting a cold, but Vitamin C is so much more than that. From helping your skin stay radiant to supporting your immune system, it s a vital nutrient that keeps your body performing at its best. Let s take a closer look at why this superstar vitamin is so important to your health.
What Vitamin C Does In Your Body?It s a powerful antioxidant that works to fight free radicals, protecting your cells from damage. By doing this, it helps lower your risk of long-term issues like heart disease and even cancer. But that s not all - Vitamin C is a key player in collagen production, a protein that keeps your skin, blood vessels, and connective tissues strong. It also helps your body absorb iron from plant-based foods, which can lower your risk of anaemia. Plus, it contributes to making neurotransmitters like norepinephrine, which is essential for brain health. Let s not forget how it helps wounds heal faster by boosting collagen production. And, perhaps most importantly, Vitamin C helps support your immune system, influencing immune cell functions and gene regulation that affect your overall immune health.
Also Read: Suffering From Vitamin C Deficiency? 5 Signs Your Body Needs A Boost
Although rare, Vitamin C deficiency can cause some serious issues, including:
1. Scurvy: This condition brings on symptoms like fatigue, joint pain, swollen gums, and delayed wound healing because your body can t make collagen.
2. Weakened Immunity: When your Vitamin C levels dip, you re more likely to get sick and take longer to recover.
3. Skin Issues: Without enough Vitamin C, your skin may become dry, rough, and flaky due to a lack of collagen.
4. Anaemia: Vitamin C helps your body absorb iron, and without it, you might develop iron deficiency anaemia.
Vitamin C And Your Immune System | How Vitamin C Supports Your HealthVitamin C is key when it comes to staying healthy and fighting off infections. Here s how it helps:
1. Supports Innate Immunity:It helps your body s first line of defence, the epithelial barriers, stay strong against harmful pathogens.
It boosts the activity of phagocytes, which eat up and destroy harmful invaders.
It helps your lymphocytes (the cells that fight infections) grow and work better.
It increases antibody production to fight off infections.
It helps keep inflammation in check, which reduces damage to tissues during immune responses.
4. Fights Viruses and Bacteria:High doses of Vitamin C can shorten the duration and severity of illnesses like the common cold.
Where To Find Vitamin C In Your DietYou ve got tons of options when it comes to getting your Vitamin C from food:
1. Fruits: Oranges, strawberries, kiwis, guavas, amla, papaya, and lemon.
2. Vegetables: Bell peppers, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, moringa, and coriander leaves.
3. Herbs and Spices: Curry leaves and green chillies.
1. Don t Overcook: Vitamin C is heat-sensitive, so the longer you cook it, the less you get. Stick to steaming or lightly sauteeing.
2. Eat Fresh: Raw fruits and veggies are the best way to get all the Vitamin C they have to offer.
3. Store Less, Eat More: Freshly picked produce has more nutrients than stuff that s been sitting around.

Vitamin C is essential for a healthy immune system, fighting free radicals, and keeping your skin looking its best. While deficiencies are rare, they can lead to major health problems, like scurvy and a weakened immune system. Eating a variety of Vitamin C-rich foods (or taking supplements if needed) can help keep you feeling strong and ready to tackle whatever life throws your way.

Homemade Chocolate Brownies Gone Wrong? 5 Mistakes You re Probably Making
Who doesn t love a warm, gooey chocolate brownie? Whether you re cosying up on a cold night or just need a little sweet pick-me-up, brownies are the perfect comfort food. One bite and you are in chocolate heaven, right? But what if your brownies aren t turning out as perfect as you hoped? If they re not as gooey or chocolatey as you would like, you might be making one (or more) of these common mistakes. Here s what to look out for.

We ve all been there-taking ingredients straight from the fridge and tossing them into the batter. Sure, it saves time, but it can totally mess with your brownies. Cold ingredients don t mix well and can leave you with uneven texture or undercooked brownies. The fix? Let your eggs and butter come to room temperature before mixing them in. Trust us, it makes all the difference!
2. Using Low-Quality Cocoa Powder or ChocolateCocoa powder and chocolate are the star players in your brownies, so don t skimp here! Whether you re using cocoa powder or actual chocolate, go for the best you can get your hands on. Look for a high cocoa percentage for that rich, intense chocolate flavour. It ll take your brownies from meh to wow in no time.
3. Over Mixing The BatterIt s so easy to get carried away mixing the batter, but here s the thing: Overmixing is a rookie move. You might think you re getting the ingredients perfectly blended, but what you re really doing is making the batter dense and chewy. For that gooey, fudgy texture we all love, mix just until everything s combined - no more, no less!
4. Using The Wrong Baking PanNot all pans are created equal and using the wrong one can mess up your brownies. Glass pans, for example, can make things cook unevenly because they re thicker. And dark-coloured pans absorb heat faster, which can burn the edges. Stick with aluminium or stainless steel pans for the best results.

The brownies are done and the urge to dive in is real, right? But resist the temptation! Right out of the oven, they re still too soft and might fall apart. Let them sit in the pan for a few minutes to firm up before slicing. A little patience goes a long way when it comes to getting that perfect brownie slice.
Making chocolate brownies is easier than it seems - just keep these tips in mind, and you ll bake the perfect batch every time. Happy baking!
How Stress Is Ruining Your Gut Health, And What You Can Do About It
Stress is part of life, but it doesn t just mess with your mood - it can wreak havoc on your gut. Chronic stress can cause bloating, indigestion, and even more serious issues like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Understanding how stress affects your digestive system is crucial for managing these symptoms, and the right food choices can help. But why does this happen? The gut and brain are connected through the gut-brain axis, a two-way communication system that links the nervous system, hormones, and immune signals.
When stress hits, your body releases hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, which disrupt your gut. These hormones can slow down digestion, mess with your gut bacteria (the microbiome), and even lead to leaky gut. Stress also reduces blood flow to your digestive system, making it harder for things to function smoothly. As a result, you might experience cramping, diarrhoea, or constipation. Chronic stress can also trigger inflammation in the gut, making everything worse and affecting nutrient absorption.

While managing stress with things like mindfulness, exercise, and sleep is crucial, what you eat can also help calm your gut. Here are some easy nutrition tips:
1. Get Your Fiber InFiber is your gut s best friend. It helps digestion and feeds the good bacteria in your gut. Try adding more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes to your meals. Foods like apples, carrots, oats, and lentils are great sources of soluble fibre that can help regulate your digestion and calm your stomach.
2. Probiotics & Prebiotics Are KeyProbiotics are live good bacteria found in fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and kimchi. These can help restore balance in your gut. Prebiotics, found in foods like garlic, onions, bananas, and asparagus, are food for these good bacteria, boosting their power.
3. Stay HydratedWater is essential for digestion. If you re dehydrated, things can get backed up, and digestion can slow down. Aim for 8 glasses a day, and adjust if you re active or in a hot climate.
4. Limit Processed & Sugary FoodsProcessed foods and sugar feed harmful bacteria and cause inflammation in the gut. Stick to whole, nutrient-packed foods that support a healthy microbiome.
5. Add Omega-3 Fatty AcidsOmega-3s are anti-inflammatory and good for your gut. Fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines are great sources, and so are plant-based options like flaxseeds and walnuts.
6. Watch Caffeine & AlcoholBoth caffeine and alcohol can irritate the gut lining and make stress-related digestive issues worse. Moderation is key, and opting for herbal teas is a gentler choice.
7. Practice Mindful EatingTake your time when eating. Chew thoroughly and try not to multitask. A relaxed environment helps digestion and can prevent bloating and indigestion.

Stress is unavoidable, but your diet can help keep your gut happy. Pair these tips with stress-reducing habits for a holistic approach to feeling your best.

New Year 2025: 6 Diet Resolutions You Can Actually Stick To
Happy New Year 2025! With the New Year celebrations comes the promise of starting afresh, especially when it comes to our diets. There are so many people who join gyms or begin new diet plans in the New Year in an attempt to lose weight. One of the most popular new year resolutions is said to be I will get fit , but what happens is in fact the opposite. Most of the diets end up crashing and derailing our weight loss goals. What we would suggest is to make simple and achievable resolutions that you can actually stick to. In New Year 2025, the focus should be on setting small goals that can easily be achieved in the short run first and then made into a regular habit.
Consultant nutritionist Rupali Dutta also agrees, Remember, the first step is the most important! Set smaller goals, for example, closing your kitchen by 9 pm or walking every half an hour of sitting. She further says that it s important to just kickstart a habit and it will undoubtedly become a part of your diet regime. It takes us 21 days to change a habit and if we follow it for three months it becomes our lifestyle. Take your time, it more important to learn what you must change and make a start, she added.

New Year 2025: Here Are 6 Diet Resolutions You Can Actually Stick To:1. Eat one fruit every day:No, we re not saying you should make a fruit platter for yourself. Just the simple act of eating one whole fruit every day will certainly go a long way in your diet plan. Fresh fruits offer a multitude of health benefits for your body. Eat it raw for best benefits. Once it becomes a habit, you can increase the quantity depending upon your other meals.
2. Use smaller plates for eating food:Sometimes, we end up piling on more food than necessary into our plates. Bigger plates give us the illusion that we still have some more space, while our stomach is already stretched to full capacity. Even the healthiest food is good till it is consumed in the amounts that the body needs, extra has never meant more goodness, says Rupali Dutta. The simple act of using a smaller plate will prove useful for your diet and weight loss goals.
3. Try to skip processed food every alternate day:If we heard a recommendation like, Avoid processed food entirely - we may follow it for two-three days or sometimes even weeks. But then all of a sudden, our cravings for junk food returns and we end up bingeing guiltily. Experts suggest that you can try skipping processed food every alternate day to begin with, and then observe the difference. Avoid factory made food and have what nature has designed, says health coach Shilpa Arora. Learn about how much you need and then stick to it. The occasional samosa or burger will also not de track you from your health goals if you understand this, adds Rupali Dutta.
4. Switch to herbal tea:The benefits of herbal teas in detoxifying the system have been proven time and again by various researchers. If you can switch your cup of masala chai or coffee for green tea or any other herbal tea of choice, trust us, your body will thank you! We are not asking ourselves to give it up entirely, but simply incorporate herbal tea into your daily diet at least every alternate day
5. Make one meal everyday a protein-rich one:In a bid to eat healthy, we often cut down on calories but forget to stock up on good nutrition instead. Rather than saying you will eat less calories or cut carbs completely from your diet, try to make at least one meal a day a protein-rich one. You can choose from either vegetarian or non-vegetarian protein sources. This will provide a simple yet effective means to cut down on calories while keeping you full for longer and contributing to your weight loss goals.
6. Walk for 15 minutes every day:Apart from the dietary changes, it is also important to incorporate exercise to make sure you shed the excess kilos. Try and walk for 15 minutes every day so that a consistent habit is formed for your daily routine. Once you get the hang of it, you can start taking a longer walk and build up from there. Complete 10,000 steps daily and get sunlight every morning for best results, suggests Shilpa Arora.
So, try these simple and achievable new year resolutions and tell us your experience in the comments below. Here s wishing all our readers a happy and healthy New Year. May 2025 be your fittest yet!

How Oreo Is Using AI To Create New Flavours And Release Them Faster
Oreo is now creating new recipes and getting them on shelves at an incredibly fast speed - all thanks to the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Oreo is manufactured by snack giant Mondelez International. Previously, new recipes were largely created through trial and error methods. Now, a new tool developed by Mondelez is speeding up the creation of snack recipes to fit certain taste profiles, The Wall Street Journal. Mondelez s food scientists tell the tool to create recipes by specifying desired characteristics, including flavour, aroma, and appearance.
Each recipe is still taste-tested by humans, but products are getting to pilot or production trials four to five times faster, the company claims. Mondelez s AI tool uses machine learning rather than generative AI seen in ChatGPT.
The point is we get there faster, Kevin Wallenstein, who works in biscuit research and development, told The Wall Street Journal. The consumer wants the product to taste like X. We re not stopping iterating until it tastes like X ... we re doing things more efficiently.

The use of AI reduces lab work, leads to faster production and minimises the need for repeated taste tests. So far, the AI tool has been used in the creation of 70 different products manufactured by Mondelez, which also owns Toblerone, Cadbury and Clif, including the Gluten Free Golden Oreo.
The tool also helps in upgrading or refreshing recipes for existing products, which are assessed every few years for potential tweaks, like whether to move over to a new chocolate-chip or vanilla-extract supplier.
Several food companies are using AI to boost their business, both in terms of quality and speed of production. Click here to learn more.

This drink stimulates your liver, encouraging bile production and aiding digestion. Squeezing the juice of half a lemon into warm water first thing in the morning not only helps cleanse your digestive system but also boosts hydration levels. Keeping yourself hydrated throughout the day is essential for flushing out toxins and supporting overall body functions. Carry a reusable water bottle with you and set regular reminders to stay on top of your water intake.
2) Re-evaluate your diet for nutrient-rich foods: Your body needs nourishing foods to support its detox efforts. Opt for a diet packed with fresh fruits, vegetables whole grains and legumes, all of which are rich in antioxidants. These nutrients protect your cells from the harmful effects of stress and inflammation. Consider adding colourful bell peppers, antioxidant-packed berries, leafy greens like broccoli and citrus fruits into your meals.
3) Cut back on alcohol for a clearer path to detox: While the occasional drink is perfectly fine, excessive alcohol consumption can seriously hinder your body s natural detox process. Alcohol puts extra strain on your liver, as it has to work overtime to process and remove toxins from your system. Overindulgence in alcohol can also disrupt your metabolism and delay recovery. Limiting your alcohol intake will allow your liver to focus on detoxifying your body, helping you feel lighter and more energised.

Not only will exercise support your detox goals, but it also improves mental clarity, reduces stress and strengthens your cardiovascular health.
5) Prioritise sleep for a full recovery: Never underestimate the power of sleep when it comes to detoxifying your body. After the excitement of New Year s Eve, ensure that you re giving your body enough rest to recover and perform its natural detoxification processes. Quality sleep supports your immune system, reduces inflammation and restores balance. Aim for at least seven hours of sleep each night.
6) Mind your sugar and salt intake: One of the key steps in detoxing is reducing your intake of sugar and salt, both of which can contribute to bloating and fatigue. During this detox period, try to eliminate refined sugars from your diet, as they can cause blood sugar spikes and crashes. Instead, reach for natural sweeteners like honey or jaggery, which provide a healthier alternative. Cutting back on salt will help your body maintain fluid balance and reduce the strain on your kidneys, allowing for better overall detoxification.
By following these simple and natural detox tips, you can help your body recover from the indulgence of New Year s Eve celebrations.

Hardest Part Of The Job : Swiggy Agent Shares Struggles Of Collecting Orders From Malls
A Swiggy delivery agent has gone viral on social media after sharing the challenges of the job. With more people turning to online food delivery, many take up roles of delivering food for popular apps. In a viral Instagram clip, now with over 2.8 million views, the agent (@amriithah) discusses the hardest and most hated part of the job - collecting orders from malls. Since many food outlets operate from large malls, delivery agents often have to navigate these complexes. The agent mentions walking through Asia s second-largest mall to take normal orders, referring to Lulu Mall in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
According to the post, delivery agents are paid Rs 25 for 5 km and must park their vehicles outside the mall. They receive no extra payment for the time and effort required to collect orders from within the crowded malls.
In the caption, the agent explains, We have to park our vehicle (separate parking slots are there) and take the service lift, get to the food court, and walk to the shop from where we got the order. There is no extra allowance for these orders. We almost lose 10-20 minutes just to collect these orders, and after taking them, we have to use the normal exit, which is also usually crowded.

The agent further suggests changes: Why can t malls collect the orders at the lower level to make our job easier? Or why aren t we getting paid extra?
Many viewers voiced their support for the delivery agent in the comments:
A user noted, Some malls do delivery guys dirty - no main entrance, no using elevators, escalators, or even restrooms meant for customers.
Another commented, I wish everyone would do this job at least once in their lifetime and see how these guys are treated.
Sharing a similar experience, one said, True. I did a part-time job with Zomato in Bangalore. Same issues - loss of time and money.
A viewer urged, @swiggyindia, you need to pay more for such situations.
NDTV reached out to Swiggy for a response, but the company has yet to comment on the matter.
Apple Cider Vinegar Vs. Lemon: Which One Is Better for Digestive Health?
Let s agree—mornings set the tone for the rest of the day. With the right foods, we can make them even better. Many of us rely on certain foods and drinks to boost our digestive health. From detox water to herbal teas, the options are endless. Among these popular choices are lemon and apple cider vinegar—both renowned for their digestive benefits. But what are the key differences between the two? How do you decide which one works best for your body? Let s explore what the experts have to say about these pantry staples so you can make an informed choice about your digestive health.

Apple Cider Vinegar vs. Lemon: Which One Is Better?Ayurvedic health coach Dimple Jangda highlights three key differences between lemon and apple cider vinegar as digestive foods for your body.
1. Vitamin C ContentOne lemon contains nearly 33 milligrams of vitamin C, which helps boost immunity against ailments like the common cold and cough. However, according to the experts, apple cider vinegar has negligible vitamin C as it is already a fermented product.
2. Digestive BenefitsLemon helps alkalize your system. When consumed with water, it stimulates bile production, improves digestion, and enhances nutrient absorption from food. Apple cider vinegar, in contrast, is acidic. The expert suggests consuming it after meals to stimulate metabolism, control sugar spikes, and create a sense of fullness, aiding in weight reduction.
3. Digestive EffectsIn Ayurveda, Jangda describes lemon as Satvik in nature because it promotes mental clarity and vitality. Apple cider vinegar, however, is considered Tamasic because it s twice fermented. Additionally, apple cider vinegar consumed on an empty stomach can erode the mucus and good fat lining your stomach and gut walls, potentially causing long-term issues like nausea, burning sensations, and acid reflux. Lemon, on the other hand, is alkaline when consumed on an empty stomach, but excessive consumption can erode tooth enamel.
Which One Is Better On An Empty Stomach? It depends on your health. Both lemon and apple cider vinegar are often consumed mixed with water, but their effects differ. As Jangda explains, lemon is the safer option since apple cider vinegar erodes the mucus lining. However, if you have a sensitive stomach, even lemon water should be consumed in moderation.
Why?Because lemon water has its own risks. Holistic health coach, Luke Coutinho highlights groups of people who should avoid lemon water on an empty stomach.
1. People with Acid RefluxLemon water may worsen GERD symptoms like heartburn for some, while others may find relief. It s best to monitor your body s reaction before deciding.
2. Dental SensitivityLemon s acidity can erode enamel, particularly in those with sensitive teeth. Use a straw and rinse your mouth after drinking lemon water to minimize risk.
3. Allergy ConcernsLemon water on an empty stomach may cause rare citrus allergies, leading to swelling, rashes, or breathing issues. Seek immediate medical help if any symptoms occur.
4. People with Joint PainLemon s acidity may aggravate joint pain in people with arthritis. Discontinue use and consult a doctor if symptoms worsen.
In Conclusion:Deciding what to start your morning with depends on your body and overall health. If unsure, try each option a few times and analyse your body s response.

UP Groom Cancels Wedding Over Food Delay, Marries Cousin Instead
Weddings are often grand celebrations of love and tradition, but for one family in Uttar Pradesh s Chandauli district, the joyous occasion turned into a nightmarish fiasco. The groom, enraged over a slight delay in serving food, abandoned the ceremony, leaving the bride and her family in shock. To add insult to injury, he tied the knot with his cousin the very same day. The incident has left the bride s family seeking justice and reeling from a financial and emotional blow.
A bizarre incident unfolded in Chandauli s Hamidpur village when Mehtab, the groom, walked out of his wedding over an alleged delay in food service. According to the bride, her marriage had been arranged with Mehtab seven months ago, and preparations were in full swing.
On December 22, Mehtab and his relatives were warmly welcomed as the wedding procession arrived at her house. However, tensions flared when a slight delay in serving food reportedly led to teasing by his friends. Infuriated, Mehtab and his family allegedly abused and assaulted the bride s family before abruptly leaving the venue.
Despite efforts by village elders to mediate, Mehtab refused to proceed with the wedding. Hours later, the bride s family learned that he had married one of his cousins. Shocked and outraged, they approached the police seeking justice.
The bride s mother claimed in her complaint that the family suffered a loss of Rs 7 lakh due to wedding expenses and arrangements for 200 guests. Additionally, Rs 1.5 lakh was handed over to the groom s family hours before the ceremony.
The bride and her family later escalated the matter to Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Laghe, prompting mediation between the two parties. Eventually, a written agreement was signed, stating that Rs 1.61 lakh would be returned to the bride s family as compensation, according to Circle Officer Rajesh Rai.
